4th Annual Maine Sports Medicine Symposium 2018: Spine

Please join Saco Bay Orthopaedic & Sports Physical Therapy and Select Physical Therapy on November 9 for our 4th Annual Maine Sports Medicine Symposium! This year’s symposium will be held at the University of Southern Maine’s Talbot Lecture Hall in the Luther Booney Building and focus on multidisciplinary management of the athletic lumbar spine.

Athletic trainers, physical therapists, doctors, nurses and health care students are welcome to attend! Symposium attendees will learn how to recognize signs and symptoms of spinal injury, differentiate between other common pathologies of the trunk and hip, develop effective treatment and rehabilitation strategies for patients, create effective return-to-play progression for an athlete following injury to the spine and receive three continuing education credits.

Travis Roy will serve as our keynote speaker. Travis is a motivational speaker and former collegiate ice hockey player. On October 20, 1995, Travis slid head-first into the boards, cracking his fourth vertebra and leaving him a quadriplegic. He has since set up the Travis Roy Foundation to help spinal cord injury survivors with adaptive equipment and fund research for a cure.
