Meet the Saco Staff

Kurt Jepson

Kurt received his B.A. in Physical Anthropology from Bates College and a B.S. in Physical Therapy from the University of New England.  In 1993 he received Board certification as a sports physical therapy specialist.  He is one of approximately 500 countrywide. 

Kurt's specialty is biomechanical evaluation.  His publications include text chapters and periodical articles. 

Affiliations: American Physical Therapy Association, APTA Sports Physical Therapy Section and SPTS Shoulder SIG. U.S. Ski Team medical pool.

He provided venue sports physical therapy services at the 1996 Atlanta Paralympics games.  In 2002, he was the physical therapist for U.S. Nordic Ski Team at the Olympics in Salt Lake City, UT. 

In 2006, Kurt was the physical therapist for the US Nordic Ski Team at the Olympics in Torino, Italy.

Michael P. Hersey

Mike graduated from the University of New England in May, 1999. In 2007 he received his Board certification as a sports physical therapy specialist. He is currently only one of three board certified sports specialists in the State of Maine. He is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist. He is also recognized by the APTA as a credentialed clinical instructor educator. He serves as one of the two center coordinators of clinical education (CCCE) for Saco Bay Physical Therapy.

Mike currently provides sports medicine coverage for Old Orchard Beach High School. He also works with the US Ski and Snowboard teams during the winter.

Affiliations: American Physical Therapy Association (APTA), APTA Sports Physical Therapy Section, National Strength and Conditioning Association, US Ski and Snowboard Team Medical Pool.

In 2006, Mike was the Physical Therapist for the US Olympic Snowboard Team at the Winter Olympics in Torino, Italy.

In 2006, Mike received the President's Award from the Maine Chapter of the APTA. This was to acknowledge and honor him as a member of the Chapter whose contributions have been of exceptional value.

Brandy Thompson

Brandy graduated from the University of Southern Maine in 2003 with her B.S. in Sports Medicine. She is Licensed and Certified as an Athletic Trainer and currently works in the Saco office. Brandy provides event coverage for several local high schools and road races.

Ryan Lucas

Ryan received his B.S. in Athletic Training from the University of Southern Maine in 2001.  He is licensed and certified as an athletic trainer and certified as a strength and conditioning specialist.  He is the Head Athletic Trainer at Biddeford High School in Biddeford, ME.

Ryan is an approved clinical instructor for the University of New England in the Department of Exercise and Sport Performance. 

In 2003 Ryan was the Athletic Trainer for the U.S. U-17 National Hockey Team at the 5 Nations Tournament in Prievidza, Slovakia.

Jessica Walfield

Jess received her A.S. Degree and earned the Clinical Excellence Award from New Hampshire Community Technical College in 2007.   She is a licensed and certified Physical Therapist Assistant. 

Prior to attending NHCTC, Jess studied Nursing at Colby Sawyer College in New Hampshire.   After spending several summers here, Jess is excited about her recent move to Maine, and she is pleased to be practicing in the Saco office of SBPT.

Joshua Bailey

Joshua Bailey received his Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from the University of New England College of Health Professions in 2007. Prior to earning his DPT degree, he obtained his Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science from Colby-Sawyer College in 1999. Joshua has held positions as the Fitness Center Director/Program Manager for the Samoset Resort and The Fitness Center Manager for the University of Southern Maine before returning to school to obtain his DPT.

Joshua has completed clinical rotations at Mercy Hospital's Health Center (Portland, ME 2007) focusing on Orthopaedics and Pediatrics; The University of Alabama Birmingham Hospital (Birmingham, AL 2006) focusing on Traumatic/Acute Care rehabilitation; and Saco Bay Orthopaedic and Sports Physical Therapy where he currently practices.

His professional interests include orthopaedic and manual physical therapy, health and wellness, and sports specific rehabilitation.

Joshua is currently an active member of the American Physical Therapy Association and is also an American Council on Exercise Certified Personal Trainer since 2000.
